About Our Adventure Programs

Our adventure programs are designed to allow participants to connect more fully with: the wild places we travel within, the wild places people find within themselves and those around them. We have opportunities for families, teens, school groups and business groups that go far beyond the shores of Mount Desert Island. Multi day canoeing, backpacking trips with day long rock climbing components built into some trips are just a few of the options here!

Canoe Trips: All canoe trips will allow ample time for mastering strokes and will continue to work on skills that will allow participants to successfully accomplish lining, portaging, tracking a canoe, rescue techniques, steering, navigating rapids, lake travel, river reading, water safety & outdoor living.

Backpacking Trips: By virtue of the setting, all backpacking trips will take advantage of “teachable moments” by offering hands on instruction on reading animal tracks and sign, identifying local flora and fauna, fording streams, mountain travel & safety, weather reading, outdoor living, leadership skills & decision making.

Community Service: Where possible, Beech Cliff will stop and offer trail crews our assistance in maintaining the trails, campsites & waterways that we use.

Astronomy: MDI is noted for having the best star viewing on the East Coast! All adventure trips will begin or end with a 1 to 2 hour astronomy workshop conducted at Beech Cliff.

Beech Cliff Outfitting Service: We realize our participants may be growing quickly - and that gear can be expensive. We rent out backpacks, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, hydration systems and polypro clothing items at a reasonable rate for our participants. We have a limited supply. Please call to reserve.
