General Roles & Responsibilities of a Camp
Beech Cliff Summer Adventure Trip Facilitator

Our adventure trips are scheduled based on activity, location, and ability level. Many of our trips attract people harnessing a wide variety of skill levels. Beginners do not yet have the knowledge to be able to judge what is safe and what is not. Therefore there is the added responsibility that leaders have of educating participants as to what the risks involved are and how to participate safely for any given activity. Of course this may apply to seasoned veterans. Those who may hike or canoe a lot at home may simply not used to participating in a group setting and may need guidance to see what is best for the group or to become familiar with Beech Cliff policies.

G.R.O.W. is an acronym that was developed to cover the majority of the responsibilities of a leader.

Goals

  1. Current policies and procedures must be followed at all times.
  2. Emotional and physical safety of self and group.
  3. Pre-stated goals determined by the group.
  4. FUN. If it is not fun why do it? Well, because growth is not always fun and we want to stimulate growth as well – but remember that fun and play is very important!

Respect

“0% discount beyond this point.”

All trips are to follow the Full Value Contract (FVC) created in the beginning. Leaders must adhere to and uphold the FVC at all times before, during and after a trip.

Organize

All leaders should be aware or have awareness of what resources they have to work with in the event that an emergency takes place. A leader needs to be able to organize the following components before, during and after a trip:

  • Human resources
  • Natural resources
  • Improvised resources
  • Time
  • Thoughts
  • Actions / communication
