The CIT program is successful due to its interactive, mobile, and intra-mural nature allowing the trainees opportunities throughout the camp. Due to the highly interactive nature of this camp across all programs, Camp Beech Cliff is requiring that CIT campers be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 this summer.

Counselor-in-Training Program

Participants must be at least 15-years-old by the start of the first session and once a teen joins the CIT track, they can no longer be a CBC Teen Camper.

Join CBC’s stellar team of counselors to learn what it takes to be a camp leader! The CIT program provides opportunities for growth and challenge to prepare teens to become a junior staff member at camp or gain skills for future jobs working with children. The CIT program is a minimum commitment of two weeks, with the first week in Training and the second (or more) as an Apprentice. The CIT program involves a selective application process; when we receive your regular camp registration, we will send you the CIT application, and schedule a time to meet with the Camp Director and the head of the CIT program for a brief pre-camp interview.

A CIT registration is a three-week enrollment (at least two weeks required). In 2024 the total cost for a three week program is $220 for everyone / $130 with resident grant discount plus the $30 registration fee. The program begins with a week of training with a dedicated staff member, followed by at least one week of apprenticeship. In the apprenticeship week(s) a CIT will be paired with a camper age-group or program area in which they have a strong interest and continue a mentor relationship with the CIT counselor and program staff members.

We are also excited to announce that beginning in 2024, our CIT training program will include the Teen Mental Health First Aid curriculum. The tMHFA program was developed in conjunction with the National Council on Mental Well-Being, and teaches teens between the ages of 15 and 18 how to be aware of the potential signs of mental health challenges amongst their peers, and help connect their peers to appropriate adult help.

A CIT may participate in more than two apprenticeship weeks at no cost.

Our Counselor-In-Training program is a great way to prepare yourself for future employment at CBC or with other similar programs. (Note: Successfully completing your CIT experience can make a great impression, but does not guarantee future employment.)
